Moving Re-Membering Purpose Forward
Since the last post, i completed the Re-Membering Purpose manuscript and submitted it to an editor for the first round of professional level editing. Sheree Greer (the incredible person with whom i am working) described this phase as developmental editing, which involves resolving any issues of voice, completion of ideas, order and flow, composition and other inconsistencies.
I also launched a Kickstarter campaign to generate support to cover the costs of editing, publishing coaching and book cover design. Family and friends (including colleagues) came through so generously. I also applied for and was granted a mini-grant from Creative Capital x Skoll Creator Fund, which helped a great deal. These resources are covering so many important elements of this publishing phase: book cover design, developmental and copy editing, publishing coaching, and other self-publishing costs.
Taking the time to do all of these things and do them well is so important and consistent with the name of this website. Medew Nefer is a concept that means beautiful speech. It is also an organizing principle that speaks to what and how words flow, their meaning, order and composition. Beauty is embodied in words chosen and arranged, their style and quality, and in the intent behind them. Beauty, in the form of spoken or written works, may not always be smooth, articulate and clear; in such cases the beauty may lay in the truth and conviction of the speaker or writer, in the simplicity of the ideas, or in the rawness of the emotion.
With Re-Membering Purpose, i aim for medew nefer. That is my intention.
